From a 650 HP Bolt-On GTR to a 2,200 HP SZM2200 Build
When Zaid brought his 2010 Nissan GTR R35 to Subzero Motorsport, the car produced approximately 650 HP with a basic bolt-on setup. The objective was to transform it into a reliable, street-driven 2,200 HP Nissan GTR capable of roll racing and high-speed use without sacrificing the factory systems that make the R35 practical to drive.
The completed Subzero Motorsport SZM2200 Package produced 1,833 WHP and 1,297 lb-ft of wheel torque on E85 at 3.5 bar of boost, with estimated engine output of approximately 2,200 HP.
Despite the increase in power, the GTR retains the factory Nissan ECU, OEM AWD, transmission control, ABS, traction control, driving modes, cruise control and cold air conditioning. The objective was not simply to achieve a peak dyno figure, but to build a complete high-horsepower R35 that remains predictable and usable on the road.
The car is also equipped with the SZM Complete Rollcage Nissan GTR R35 for additional structural reinforcement and occupant protection during high-speed and roll-racing use.

Cold starts, idle quality, transmission operation, air conditioning and the factory vehicle systems remain fully functional. During normal driving, the car retains the familiar behaviour of a Nissan GTR. Nissan GTR R35 VR38 Stage 3 4.1L Short Block Package - 2,200 HP
Reliable power beyond 2,000 HP starts with the engine foundation. Zaid's GTR uses the Nissan GTR R35 VR38 Stage 3 4.1L Short Block Package (2200HP), built around a reinforced OEM VR38DETT block and completed through Subzero Motorsport's in-house machining and assembly programme.
We continue to use the OEM VR38 block in this application because our machining programme has repeatedly demonstrated its capability in high-power roll-racing and half-mile builds. When the original casting is serviceable, the correct reinforcement, machining, clearances and assembly procedures allow it to remain a highly capable foundation beyond 2,000 HP.
The displacement was increased to 4.1 litres using a micro-polished Brian Crower BC5249 EN40 billet stroker crankshaft. The additional displacement improves torque delivery and helps the twin Precision Next Gen 6875 turbochargers respond more quickly in real-world street and roll-racing conditions.

Every critical block operation is completed in-house at Subzero Motorsport. This gives our team direct control over machining accuracy, cylinder preparation, main alignment, deck finish, rotating-assembly balance, bearing clearances and final engine assembly.
The Magnus chromoly girdle and 12 mm main studs reinforce the lower section of the block under high cylinder pressure. At the top of the engine, the ARP Custom Age 625+ Long Head Stud Kit and SZM Spec 1.2 mm Composite Head Gasket with Copper Rings provide the clamping and combustion sealing required at 3.5 bar of boost.
The oiling system was also modified to increase pressure and volume. At this output level, consistent oil delivery is as important as the strength of the internal components, particularly during sustained acceleration and operation near the 8,750 rpm limit.
Why Use an OEM VR38 Block Instead of a Billet Block?

A billet block is not automatically required for every Nissan GTR build producing more than 2,000 HP.
Subzero Motorsport operates an in-house machine shop and has established procedures for strengthening and preparing the OEM VR38 casting. Our Stage 3 4.1L OEM VR38 combination has been used in high-power roll-racing and half-mile applications without failures attributed to the original block material.
We generally consider a billet block when the OEM block is damaged, no longer suitable for machining, or when the intended power level and long-term build strategy make a billet block the more appropriate solution.
For Zaid's SZM2200 street build, the correctly prepared OEM VR38 block provided the required combination of strength, serviceability and proven performance.

Nissan GTR R35 VR38 Stage 3 Cylinder Head Package
The cylinder heads were developed to supply the airflow required by the 4.1L engine and twin Precision Next Gen 6875 turbochargers while maintaining stable idle quality and street drivability.
Both the intake and exhaust ports were CNC machined, while the combustion chambers were CNC modified to improve consistency and airflow across all six cylinders.

The Boost Logic Ultimate Race Intercooler and SZM Nissan GTR R35 Intercooler Piping Kit provide the charge-air cooling and airflow capacity required during repeated high-load operation. The 4-inch titanium inlet and filter pipes reduce restriction before the turbocharger compressors.

The SZM 4-Inch Full Exhaust System provides the exhaust-flow capacity required for this 1,833 WHP Nissan GTR R35. Does the SZM Nissan GTR Turbo Kit Require Chassis Cutting?
No. The SZM turbo-manifold and intercooler-piping layout was installed on Zaid's Nissan GTR R35 without cutting or modifying the chassis rails.
The turbo manifolds position the turbochargers close to the engine while maintaining clearance from the surrounding chassis. The intercooler pipes are fabricated to pass around the outside of the chassis rails rather than through them.
This preserves the original vehicle structure, maintains serviceability and helps avoid complications during annual RTA renewal in the UAE. It also demonstrates that large turbochargers and high-flow intercooler piping can be installed without permanently modifying the GTR chassis when the complete system is engineered around the available space.

The AMS Carbon-Fibre 12-Injector Intake Manifold supports the airflow and staged-injector configuration required by the 4.1L VR38DETT while maintaining responsive street operation.
The 12-injector configuration allows the calibration to use primary injectors during lower-load operation and introduce the secondary injectors as fuel demand increases under boost.

SZM T1 Brushless Fuel System for E85
The SZM T1 Brushless Fuel System provides the fuel volume and pressure stability required for this 1,833 WHP E85 combination.

2024 OEM Nissan GTR ECU and TCU with EcuTek RaceROM
Zaid's GTR operates using a 2024 OEM Nissan ECU and TCU calibrated through EcuTek.
Subzero Motorsport retains the factory ECU because of the level of control and OEM integration available when it is correctly calibrated. Our experience includes OEM-ECU race combinations approaching 2,700-2,800 HP and more than 70 psi of boost without reaching a limitation that required a standalone engine-management system.
The OEM ECU communicates directly with the factory TCU, ABS module, AWD system, traction control, stability control and other Nissan modules. Retaining this integration allows the original vehicle systems to continue operating together rather than treating engine management as an isolated system.
Engine Protection and Sensor Strategy
Power capability alone is not enough at this level. The ECU must also be able to identify unsafe operating conditions and react before they develop into engine damage.

The GR6 drivetrain was built to transfer the output of the SZM2200 package while maintaining controlled and reliable street operation.
GR6 Transmission and AWD Components
The Albins components provide the gear and shaft strength required for extreme torque. The Xtreme WP24 clutch system transfers engine output while retaining controlled engagement suitable for street operation.
The SZM billet transmission case, mid plate, thrust plate, shift forks and oil pan increase rigidity and support the GR6 transmission during repeated high-load acceleration.
The ETS 11-Plate AWD Clutch Upgrade increases the torque capacity of the AWD clutch system while retaining the all-wheel-drive behaviour that is fundamental to the R35 platform.

JRZ Coilovers and SPL Suspension Setup
A 1,833 WHP street GTR must be stable enough for the driver to use its performance safely and predictably.
