When building high-horsepower Nissan GTR R35s, injector selection and fuel delivery strategy play a critical role in achieving both power and drivability. At Subzero Motorsport, we’ve tested countless injector combinations over the years, and the dual injector setup continues to prove itself as the ideal solution for high-power street and race applications. By using smaller primary injectors and larger secondary injectors under boost, the system delivers precise fuel control, OEM like drivability, and the injector capacity required to support the targeted horsepower levels without compromising street manners. For GT-R R35 builds, we typically recommend moving to a dual injector setup once power targets exceed the safe limit of ID1340x injectors, which is around 950 WHP. Beyond this point, adding larger secondary injectors allows us to support higher horsepower while keeping the primary injectors small enough for smooth cold starts, stable idle quality, and OEM-like drivability.
Why Single Injector Setups Become a Limitation
On the VR38 platform, running extremely large primary injectors (1750cc or above) alone can create compromises during idle, cold starts, and low-load driving conditions. While very large injectors can support high horsepower numbers, they often reduce fuel control accuracy at low pulse widths.
This becomes especially noticeable on street-driven cars where smooth cold starts, traffic driving, and factory-like behavior still matter. That’s where dual injection changes the game.
How the Dual Injector Setup Works
Our preferred configuration consists of:
- Injector Dynamics 1050cc or 1340cc primary injectors
- Injector Dynamics 1750cc or 2600cc secondary injectors
- Visconti Tuning dual injector controller
- BoostLogic dual injector intake manifold or our SZM Spec upgraded OEM intake manifold
The primary injectors handle normal driving conditions such as:
- Cold starts
- Idle
- Cruising
- Light throttle operation
Because the primary injectors remain moderate in size, the car maintains smooth drivability and factory-like behavior during daily use.
As boost and airflow increase, the secondary injectors gradually supply the additional fuel required for high-horsepower operation. This staged approach allows the engine to remain refined under normal driving conditions while still supporting extreme power levels when demanded.
Supporting up to or exceeding 2000 WHP without sacrificing street manners is one of the biggest advantages of the dual injector system.

At Subzero Motorsport, we calibrate these setups using EcuTek Technologies software on the factory Nissan GT-R ECU, professionally tuned by Mohammad Al Jabri to deliver OEM-level drivability with high-horsepower performance.
With proper calibration and fuel system integration, the result is a high-horsepower GT-R that retains OEM-like refinement and drivability despite producing extreme power levels.
Key advantages include:
- Factory-like cold and warm start behavior
- Smooth and stable idle quality
- Refined low-speed and daily driving manners
- Predictable, controlled, and consistent power delivery under boost
This combination allows the VR38 platform to deliver nearly 2000+ WHP capability while still behaving like a properly engineered street car during normal driving conditions.
Why We Use Injector Dynamics Injectors

We specifically prefer Injector Dynamics injectors because of their consistency, linearity, and excellent low-pulse-width control.
For high-end GT-R builds, injector quality matters just as much as injector size. The combination of:
- ID1050x or ID1340x primary injectors
- ID1750x or ID2600x secondary injectors
Which gives us exceptional tuning flexibility across the entire RPM and load range while ensuring stable fuel control during daily driving, flex fuel operation, high boost, launch control, and extended high-speed use.
Visconti Tuning Dual Injector Controller

To properly manage staged injection, we use the Visconti Tuning dual injector controller.
This controller integrates seamlessly into the GT-R ECU and allows precise control of the secondary injectors under boost and load.
Combined with EcuTek calibration, the result is smooth injector transition without drivability issues or unstable fueling behavior.
BoostLogic Dual Injector Intake Manifold

BoostLogic Dual Injector Intake Manifold We pair the setup with the Boost Logic dual injector intake manifold. Beyond supporting secondary injector placement, the manifold also improves:
- Airflow distribution
- Overall fuel atomization under heavy load
This makes it an ideal solution for serious street and race GT-R builds.
SZM Spec Dual Injector Upgraded OEM Intake Manifold

We also offer our SZM Spec Dual Injector Upgraded OEM Intake Manifold. The factory intake manifold is modified by fabricating custom injector bushes that securely house the secondary injectors, which are then precisely cut and welded into the intake manifold. The runners are also ported to improve airflow efficiency and fuel distribution under high-load and high boost conditions.
The setup comes as a complete ready-to install solution that works with the factory style intercooler piping layout, including the secondary fuel rail, allowing seamless secondary injector integration while retaining OEM-style fitment and engine bay appearance.
The Real Goal: Power Without Compromise
Anyone can build a GT-R that makes big dyno numbers.
The real challenge is building a car that:
- Starts instantly
- Idles smoothly
- Cruises comfortably
- Maintains OEM functionality
- And still delivers extreme horsepower when demanded
That’s exactly why we prefer dual injector setups on the Nissan GT-R R35 platform.
At Subzero Motorsport, our focus has always been creating high-performance GTRs that remain refined, reliable, and usable both on the street and at the track.
